Hi, my name is Jessica and I live in Southern California. On Jan 7, I fled my apartment on the east side of Los Angeles, due to the Eaton Fire. I haven’t been back since, and have been displaced. I haven’t posted much about this as I didn’t want to ask for help, but I’m at that point. There is lead, asbestos and combustion byproducts in my apartment, on all of my personal items, and I’ve had to move out of my apartment. Ash came in through the exhaust fans in my bathroom and kitchen, and asbestos came in through the doors and windowsills.
My insurance company (unsurprisingly) is being awful and withholding important cleaning aspects of my items (saying there’s no asbestos on the items when there’s asbestos in my physical apartment, trying to draw the line at “personal items,” when science doesn’t work like that). I’m attempting to salvage what I can by cleaning, but I’ve pretty much lost everything, and I need help.
Your support will help me pay for $10,000 of testing with a certified industrial hygienist I paid for out of pocket, and $7,000 out of pocket I’ve had to pay to clean my items, and $2,500 in moving costs, and $5,500 in replacing my personal items insurance is not covering, as the cleaning of my items goes towards my coverage, and is eating up a good portion of it. Thanks for any donation possible, it will make my life a great deal easier, as this has been a hell of a year.
