About the Campaign
On Monday, July 28, 2025 tragedy struck in a way no one could have prepared for. Andrew Canepa, a 33-year-old father, friend, and co-owner of Newbury Park’s beloved Side Street Cafe, was senselessly killed during a mass shooting outside the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada.
Andrew was one of three people killed, with several others wounded in an act of violence that has left families broken and a community grieving.
While we can never replace Andrew’s presence, laughter, and kindness, we can come together now to honor his legacy and support what mattered most to him: his 6-year-old son and his family.
A Life of Love and Dedication
Andrew wasn’t just the co-owner of a restaurant—he was a bright light in every room, a man who worked hard to bring people together over good food, laughter, and care. His love for his son was the center of his life. Those who knew Andrew describe him as humble, generous, hardworking, and devoted—the kind of man who’d give you the shirt off his back, even if it was his last.
His presence made Side Street Cafe more than a restaurant—it became a cornerstone of connection for Newbury Park. Now, it’s our turn to return the love.
