Dear friends,
As many of you know, my brother-in-law Chris is a proud United States Marine and a man who has spent his life serving others—with strength, compassion, and unwavering generosity. Whether he’s lending a hand to a neighbor, offering advice, or providing a laugh to pick up someone’s day, Chris has always been the kind of person who lifts others up. He and my sister Kellie have been a source of love, support, and kindness to so many in their community.
Now, it’s our turn to be there for them.
In March, Chris received a surprising and devastating cancer diagnosis and is facing the fight of his life. The road ahead is filled with challenges and uncertainties—emotionally, physically, and financially. As they focus on navigating his treatment and their new reality with their son, Nicky, we want to do everything we can to ease the burden they’re carrying.
Medical bills, prescriptions, travel expenses, and everyday costs are quickly adding up. With Chris not being able to work, the burden rests on Kellie’s shoulders. Our goal is to give Chris and Kellie the space to focus fully on his fight—without the overwhelming stress of financial strain.
They both have fought me about having a fundraiser organized for them. While I know Kellie has set up many for others, when I approached her on this, she keeps saying, “There are many out there who have it worse than us!” Of course, she’s right, but it doesn’t diminish the strain that is on her, Chris, and their family. I’d really like to help them at this time where their only care should be helping Chris.
If you’re able to give, no matter the amount, please know that every contribution will make a difference. Even a share or a kind message means the world during times like these.
We are asking people to please not contact them directly at this time, as they have been overwhelmed with medical appointments, care for their son, work, and answering the natural questions that arise when you learn someone you care about has cancer. I’m happy to relay any messages, or of course, you can leave one on the fundraiser page and my sister will see them and share them with Chris.
Let’s rally around two people who have always shown up for others. Together, we can lift them up with the same love and strength they’ve shown so many of us.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your support, your prayers, and your generosity.
With love and gratitude,
Steve Porter and the Porter/Marchant Family
