My brother Sue and sister-in-law Kathy launched a food truck business in 2022 named “KT’s Wok.” They had future plans to expand to a brick-and-mortar while keeping their food truck open to provide a brighter future for their four children and a haven for their family. But on May 14, 2025, their life took a devastating turn. My brother was diagnosed with cancer, Stage 3-4 nasopharyngeal carcinoma with metastatic lymphadenopathy, associated with Epstein-Barr virus. With unwavering dedication, my sister-in-law decided to close their business on May 19, 2025, to focus on my brother’s health and recovery. Sue is the main provider and will need to take leave to do extensive chemotherapy and radiation, with Kathy now having to manage and assist Sue with his medical and personal care needs, the household, kids, and seeking a new job to support their financial well-being.
Sue takes painkillers and goes to work every day saving as many vacation and sick days as possible so he can use them for his treatment while suffering a constant battle of pounding migraines, burning head sensations, constant earaches, loss of hearing, fatigue; as well as feeling nauseous, having a constant stuffy nose, jaw pain, and extreme sharp pain in the neck. Sue courageously quoted that he is more afraid of financial struggles and ensuring that he has enough funds for his treatment than he is of his cancer; yet, he is grateful that he is the one battling this illness and not his wife and kids.
Anyone who knows Sue is inspired by his compassionate nature. He is a respectable man and adores his wife and kids dearly. He selflessly helps others, never expecting anything in return. He believes in upholding good morals, principles and that kindness should always be shown from the heart, even if it goes unreciprocated. Now that he and his family are going through this difficult journey with many lifestyle changes, we are asking for your help with donations for medical and living expenses to alleviate the financial burden during his treatment. We want to support him so he can focus on his healing and recovery rather than on what he fears most, and shine a light of hope during this challenging time. We understand that times are tough for everyone, so any amount will be helpful. Please spread the word by sharing this fundraiser so we can have the largest reach possible to help them navigate this unfortunate journey ahead of them.
Treatment plan as follows:
Induction chemotherapy with gemcitabine/cisplatin for 3 cycles (9 rounds), followed by radiotherapy with weekly cisplatin. All radiation begins with a CT simulation for treatment planning purposes, using an immobilization mask to ensure reproducibility of setup. This would likely occur at the start of cycle 3. Treatment planning would occur over approximately 2 weeks subsequent to the simulation. The patient would then undergo radiation delivered over the course of 33 daily treatments in 6.5 weeks, Monday through Friday, with each treatment day taking approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. He would be assessed each treatment day for clinical status.
Estimated medical cost: $25,000
Thank you for your donations. Thank you to everyone for the continuous love and support and for sharing this fundraiser. Please keep Sue and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
