Help Me Win the Battle Against Leukemia
Hello, my name is Angélica Duque, and at 27 years old, I am facing the greatest challenge of my life. In October 2024, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. With 93% cellularity in my bone marrow, my illness is an aggressive form of blood cancer that requires urgent and ongoing treatment. Unfortunately, it cannot be cured unless I receive a bone marrow transplant from a compatible donor.
I am from Venezuela, a country where going through a complex illness like cancer is extremely difficult. Here, access to healthcare and medication is not guaranteed. In fact, I’ve had to purchase many of the medications myself, as the state does not provide them.
I received four cycles of chemotherapy, and thankfully, I responded well to the treatment. In a follow-up bone marrow aspiration performed in January of this year, the results showed a minimal presence of 0.01% of blasts (cancerous cells). I completed my treatment in April with the hope of receiving a bone marrow transplant in the city of Valencia, Venezuela.
However, the waiting period has worked against me. During the three months I spent waiting for a response and the arrangements for my transplant, the number of blasts unfortunately increased to 3.8%. This means I am now undergoing two additional cycles of chemotherapy to try to contain the disease and prevent it from getting out of control. I cannot afford to wait much longer—because this illness is so aggressive, my transplant is urgently needed.
When the time came to proceed with the transplant in June, I was informed that I would have to cover the cost of stem cell extraction and platelet apheresis. The total cost is 1,705,108 BS, which is approximately $15,000 USD. This is a fluctuating price due to Venezuela’s inflation. On top of this, hospitals here lack the supplies, medications, and testing required during hospitalization—for both chemotherapy and the transplant. All of these are essential expenses to give me the chance to continue living and to regain my health. Therefore, the initial sum of $15,000 USD could easily rise to around $20,000 USD an amount I don’t have.
This is why I turn to you with humility, respect, and hope.
If you’re unable to donate at this time, I would still deeply appreciate it if you could share this campaign. Every form of help, whether financial support or spreading the word, can make a huge difference.
Thank you for your time, your support, and your compassionate heart.
With hope and all my heart,
