It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jean H. Taveras, a beloved grandpa, uncle, cousin, brother, husband, and, most importantly, a devoted Dad.
Jean had a great passion for old bachata music, guitar playing, and singing. He would practice every day on his karaoke setup, speaking into the mic to test the quality, “1, 2, 3,” repeatedly until the mix was in his favor before bursting out singing and playing the guitar delicately. Unfortunately, he passed away on July 25, 2025, at 1:23 PM.
Jean was a remarkable man who touched many lives. In the areas he lived, he was known as a mediator and peacemaker, fostering harmony and understanding among those around him. A talented musician, Jean filled his days spending time with his family and friends, playing dominoes, building computers, and, of course, singing while playing his acoustic guitar and hosting lively karaoke nights that welcomed all.
Despite facing adversity, including spending the last half of his life in a wheelchair due to a shooting in 1995, Jean remained determined and inspiring. He earned two college degrees in computer science, established his own PC business, and continued to nurture friendships and family connections. He shared his love of music by teaching others and opened his home to families in need, embodying a spirit of generosity and compassion.
Jean faced numerous health challenges, including a life-threatening infection in 2007 that he miraculously survived, supported by his loving wife and caregiver, Deborah, who spent the last 31 years by his side through thick and thin on every occasion.
In his final weeks, as his heart weakened, Jean communicated with his family through gestures and expressions despite being intubated and sedated. He was surrounded by their love and comfort.
Jean’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and the importance of helping others. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
If possible, we are asking for donations to help cover funeral costs. Anything remaining will be left with his loving wife Deborah and their beautiful child Maia.
Thank you for your support and love.
With heartfelt gratitude,
The Family of Jean H. Taveras
We will all love and miss you. ❤️
