Dear friends, family, and compassionate supporters,
My name is Natalia Islay Arroyo-Vergne de Hunter. I am the proud granddaughter of Sra. /Dona Islay Vergne-Arroyo (& the late Ismael Vergne) and daughter of Berta Vergne-Arroyo.
It is with heavy hearts, we share that our beloved grandmother, Islay Vergne-Arroyo passed away. She was a radiant woman — a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, beauty queen and U. S. Military Wife. She brought warmth, strength, and grace to every room, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and faith.
Our family is planning to honor her final wishes with a burial Puerto Rico’s National Military Cemetery in Bayamón next to her husband my late grandfather, and traveling to Panama where she lived. Generations of our family are rooted in these places that meant everything to her — and to us.
Unfortunately, this loss comes just a few months after the passing of my father-in-law, and the back-to-back grief has brought not only emotional heartbreak but also financial hardship. It’s also been hardest on my four very young children to experience so much loss a such a tender age.
We are a large and close-knit family, and we want to come together to say goodbye. Needed things like airfare, funeral costs, and logistics between international locations for family travel at such short and emergent notice have created a significant burden.
Your support will help us:
• Fund airfare and travel for family members to attend the services
• Contribute toward burial and funeral expenses in Puerto Rico and Panama
• Bring our family together to honor her memory and give her the farewell she truly deserves
• allow her 9 great grandchildren to travel with family to pay their respects
Any amount — even $5 — helps carry this weight. If you can’t give, please consider sharing this with your network or offering a prayer in her memory. Your support means more than words can express.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
With love and gratitude,
The Arroyo-Vergne Family
