Help Xiong Heal: Support for Medical Expenses
Xiong is a devoted husband, a loving father to two beautiful daughters, and the heart of his family. He has always been the rock of his family—their main provider, protector, and support system.
On June 16th, Xiong’s health took a sudden and serious turn. What started as a mild cough and chills quickly escalated into a life-threatening illness. Despite multiple ER visits and being sent home with antibiotics, his condition worsened. It wasn’t until his third emergency visit that doctors discovered he had sepsis due to the Streptococcus pneumonia—one of the most aggressive strains of pneumonia. After nearly a week in the hospital, Xiong was discharged, only to be rushed back again days later.
This time, (4th emergency visit) it was far more severe. He was holding over 10 pounds of excess fluid in his body and his heart struggling to keep up, with the worst of it all, his left-lung had collapsed from fluid build-up. Xiong could barely breathe, couldn’t eat, and was in immense pain.
He was admitted once again and underwent multiple procedures including:
* Daily blood draws and urine tests, X-rays, and CT scans
* Chest tube inserted due to pleural effusion
* Six rounds of TPA treatments to clear the pus build in the pleural space
* An endoscopy
* A lung decortication surgery performed by the Cardiothoracic Surgery team
Altogether, Xiong spent three weeks in the hospital, fighting for his life. Now, as he begins the long road to recovery, he’s unable to work—and with him being the primary provider for his family, the medical expenses are compiling.
