My name is Lucas Spivey, and I hesitantly ask for help. On Saturday June 7th at 6 AM, my cherished tiny house, Eartha, was struck by an unexpected disaster—a massive oak tree crashed through the roof. Thankfully it fell through the skylight in between the lofts where my brother and I slept.
The tree also destroyed the newly built garage and caused significant damage to my beloved Cora the camper trailer. Cora is a mobile recording studio, and enabled me to travel to all 50 states while recording and supporting hundreds of creatives.
I have been trying to build this place out as an educational residency and this is a major set back. My tiny house has been a labor of love for the past two years, a sacred space where I host potlucks and workshops for our local community and travelers seeking healing and rest. It’s the first place I’ve ever truly called home.
Just a year ago, our neighborhood faced a devastating tornado that destroyed half of it, and now we find ourselves facing another crisis. I feel incredibly vulnerable asking for help. Fear of rejection and judgment looms large—I don’t want to burden those I love. My self-reliance is a deeply ingrained value, and reaching out feels like admitting failure. Yet, as seen with previous initiatives, including the previous tornado cleanup, and Cora the camper’s adventures, I know it’s a beautiful thing for communities to rally around shared goals.
We have already managed to cut up the largest part of the fallen tree and cover the roof with plastic, but the leaks persist and make my home unlivable. The estimated cost to repair the roof and rebuild the garage is around $3,000, not including the additional repairs needed for the camper. We are unable to assess the camper damage until we remove the broken roof.
The stretch goal would be $5,000 so we can hire also professional to take down the other giant oak that leans toward the house.
I’m reaching out to you for help to restore my home and make it safe again. Your support will not only assist with repairs but also enable me to continue hosting our community gatherings, which are vital for connection and healing. I would also greatly appreciate any volunteers willing to lend a hand in rebuilding.
Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference in our journey back to safety and community. Please share this fundraiser for maximum visibility. Your personal messages shine light on this dark situation, I appreciate every single word of kindness and hope.
Thank you for your kindness, love and support during this challenging time!
