Hello all! Let me tell you about somebody who is very dear to me… Rachel Hosford. She is a long time ICU nurse in Springfield, MO, and has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 endometrial cancer. In mid May, she underwent a colonoscopy for initial concerns of possible colon cancer; however, when her colonoscopy was clean, an MRI was completed showing a large uterine mass. She underwent a total open hysterectomy due to the size of the tumor. While she was recovering from that big surgery and didn’t have her pathology fully back yet, she started experiencing weakness on the left side of her body and drooping on her left side of her face. Well, nurses being stubborn, like we all are, she brushed it off at first. With some convincing from her sister, she ended up going in to the ER. In the ER, the discovered a 3 cm frontal brain mass causing vasogenic edema with a 7 mm midline shift. She was admitted to the hospital and underwent a craniotomy a couple days later to remove the tumor. All pathology biopsies show adenocarcinoma of endometrial origin, meaning she has stage 4 uterine cancer that metastasized to her brain. Rachel is trying to keep her spirits up and is itching to go back to work; however, her Gynecologist-Oncologist and Neurosurgeon have not cleared her yet and likely won’t until after chemo. As of now, the plan will be for chemotherapy followed by radiation. She has already had her port placed; however, insurance has not approved it yet, for whatever reason. If insurance does not approve this, she will be responsible for paying $17,000 for the port placement. We are all hoping and praying that it will be covered as it should be, but in any case she may not be able to work for several more months, and has acquired a lot of medical bills already as her insurance is a $12,000 max out of pocket and with just the colonoscopy and hysterectomy, it cost her $7,000 with insurance. I have set up this Go FundMe to help Rachel with her medical bills and living. Anybody who knows Rachel knows that when she decides something there’s no changing her mind, and she is determined to fight cancer!
