If you know me, you know I am not someone who asks for help easily, especially not in public. I have always worked hard for everything I have. It breaks my heart that I cannot fix this situation for my family on my own, but if it comes down to asking for help or my daughter not having a safe place to sleep, I’m swallowing my pride.
In late February of this year, I survived a violent assault that changed my life and my family’s life in ways I could never have imagined. My husband and daughter have been massively affected by witnessing me nearly lose my life. Because of this, I am now dealing with serious medical challenges that prevent me from working. I am doing everything I can to heal and stay strong for them, but managing the neurological pain, cognitive impairment, and severe PTSD are battles I face every single day.
My husband has done everything he can to keep us afloat, but now his only car has completely broken down and cannot be repaired. Without it, he cannot get to work and we have no other income. I have sold anything and everything I could to try to stay ahead, but it has not been enough.
I have called 211 and every other number I have been given, but so far I have not received real help. Even the Victims of Crime unit has not stepped in to help us keep our home or cover our basic needs.
We just received a 3-Day Notice to Pay or Quit. We are more than $7,000 behind on rent and if we cannot catch up immediately, we could lose our home within days. We have no savings left because every dollar we had went to rent, food, and what medical care I could manage. I have not even been able to afford the full treatment I need for the PTSD and trauma I face daily.
Your donation will help us:
• Pay the back rent to stop the eviction
• Secure reliable transportation so my husband can get back to work
• Cover basic living costs and critical medical care while we wait for disability and victim aid to come through
If you can help or even just share this, it would mean the world to us. I promise every cent will go directly to keeping my family safe and stable while we fight through this crisis.
Thank you for reading, caring, and believing in us when we need it most.
With love and gratitude,
Karena, Art, and Karlyne
