Ayuda urgente tras Incendio Familiar

  • Uniformes escolares
  • Sofá futón
  • Impresora, lámparas y aparatos electrónicos
  • Retratos familiares pintados a mano

Familia Cortorreal/Aparicio.

**IN ENGLISH:

Early in the morning on June 12, 2025, tragedy struck my family. At 3:31 a.m., my 6-year-old sister and 8-year-old brother woke our mother up after hearing the fire alarm going off repeatedly. When they opened the front door, thick black smoke had already filled the floor hallway. They had no time to grab anything but to evacuate with their pajamas and no shoes on, fleeing down the fire escape to safety.

During the emergency response, the firefighters had to destroy their entire bedroom wall and part of the ceiling to contain the fire. While the flames were eventually extinguished an hour later, the damage was overwhelming. Every window in the apartment was removed or blown out, the unit was completely flooded, and all of their belongings were destroyed. Absolutely nothing could be salvaged.

*Some of the items ruined include:

  • Children’s bunk bed
  • Mother’s king-sized bed
  • Ring security cameras
  • All undergarments and clothing
  • School uniforms
  • Futon couch
  • Printer, lamps, and electronics
  • Hand-painted family portraits

Even worse, my family is now displaced and has received little to no assistance from city agencies or organizations. Due to the city vacancy order, they cannot return home and lack stable housing and finances. They have bravely continued to recover from the physical and emotional trauma of that day. My siblings are young and deeply shaken by the experience, suffering anxiety and distress as does our mother. Injuries include soot inhalation with cuts on their feet and calves from escaping barefoot.

*We are asking for $10,000 to help cover:

  • Temporary housing until the apartment is repaired
  • Daily food and beverages
  • Replacement of clothing, shoes, and school supplies
  • Furniture, beds, and electronics
  • Ongoing bills while not living in the unit
  • Emergency savings for any future relocation or restoration

This experience has been deeply traumatic, sudden, and financially devastating. Any amount you can give, even $5, will help tremendously. If you can’t donate, please just share this fundraiser so others can see it and support the Cortorreal/Aparicio family, which would mean the world! We are deeply grateful for any support during this incredibly hard time.

With love and hope,

Cortorreal/Aparicio Family.

We’re heartbroken to share that our dear friend Alex passed away far too soon. His light, his laughter, his incredible spirit — they touched so many, and his absence is deeply felt.

Hi everyone — Angela here, writing on behalf of Matthew (for now). On December 6th, completely out of the blue, Matthew suffered a severe stroke.
