My name is Abbie, and it’s my honor to support my best friend Jessica in her battle against colon cancer. I met Jessica in college, and we became best friends quickly, and look at each other like sisters over friends. Jessica is never one to ask for help, and would prefer giving the shirt off of her back to support her family and friends versus asking for help.
Here is Jessica’s current story.
Diagnosed in April 2025, after a misdiagnosis of diverticulitis, Jessica underwent surgery in May to remove the tumor. Final pathology came back within two weeks as stage 2 colon cancer, and an aggressive form. During surgery, the surgeons removed what they initially thought was a benign tumor, which actually turned out to be a second tumor growing. Thankfully, no cancer showed in her lymph nodes that were removed. Jessica was sent home to finish recovering from the surgery.
To date, there are signs of cancer cells within her lymphatic system, so after meeting with an oncologist on July 7th, she is facing more testing to determine which course of action for chemo she needs to pursue. At this point, we do know that she will be facing at least 6 months of chemotherapy to start in August at the earliest.
Jessica has had to take a leave of absence with no pay from her current position that she loves due to her surgery and recovery time. Her insurance is very minimal, and she is needing help to relieve some stress her medical bills are starting to bring. She is appreciative of any help she is blessed with, and says thank you.
I will post updates of her treatment as she moves forward and more information is obtained.
