Hi, my name is Lourdes, and I want to introduce you to my gentle giant brother, Rey. My brother Rey is a warrior. He first faced off against cancer in 2021 when he found a lump under his arm, which was thought initially to be benign. After a specialist examined it via biopsy and saw it was cancer (diffused large B cell lymphoma), my brother entered treatment of 6 rounds of R-CHOP. It appeared it was in remission.
Fast forward to 2024, late September/early October, Rey began to lose weight. The weight loss continued throughout the month of October. During the month of November, Rey experienced many gastrointestinal issues. When his son jumped on him to play, he had to run to the bathroom to vomit his dinner up. That began a season of not being able to hold anything down; getting nauseous and vomiting shortly after he ate.
Rey continued working at his job as a mailman, but it was difficult due to the fatigue.
Finally, it was a Saturday, on December 28, when his wife told him he had to go to the emergency room to see what’s going on. Rey tried to get ready to go to work that day, but it took him two hours just to take a shower and get dressed. He ended up calling out because he was too fatigued.
When he went to the emergency room, they performed many tests, and the CT scan revealed a reoccurrence of large B cell lymphoma. He began chemotherapy, but the regimen they put him on didn’t improve the condition of the disease. After three rounds, they recommended that Rey see another specialist. They tried another type of chemotherapy, which gave him an allergic reaction, so they ended up switching it to the ICE regimen. This regimen has helped put Rey on the path for a bone marrow transplant using his own stem cells. Doctors are hopeful that the stem cell transplant will eradicate the disease once and for all.
The goal is to help provide peace to Rey and his family during his healing journey.
During this time, Rey is unable to work, and as you can imagine, everyday responsibilities do not stop while he journeys through cancer. From medical payments, home payment, car payments, and basic living expenses, along with travel costs to the treatment center, the financial strain is significant.
If you’re in a position to help, I humbly ask for your support today to give my brother a healthier and brighter tomorrow. Thank you!
